The Queen Marie Theatre launches an Open Call for young directors from Romania who are passionate about contemporary comedy. We are looking for original proposals of comedies that reflect current realities and challenges, exploring relevant themes for today’s audience, but in a creative, humorous, and innovative manner.

What we are looking for:

• Young directors up to 35 years old;
• Projects for contemporary comedies, either original creations or modern adaptations that address current themes;
• An original and smart directorial concept.

Materials required for application: Please send us the following materials by December 15:

• The proposed text, if it is an already written text;
• A detailed and reasoned description of the directorial concept;
• A proposed cast that includes actors from the Iosif Vulcan Company;
• A proposal for a creative team, depending on the needs of the project: set designer, playwright (for original texts), composer, choreographer, etc.;
• CVs of the entire team;
• A copy of the diploma for graduating in Theatre Direction;
• OPTIONAL: Video recordings of one or more productions you have directed.

Selection criteria:

• Originality and relevance of the proposed theme;
• Ability to form a creative team for the project;
• Feasibility of the project from a production standpoint.

Timeline:

• Application period: November 5 – December 15, 2024
• Jury period: December 16, 2024 – January 16, 2025
• Announcement of the winner: January 17, 2025
• Production period for the show: 2025-2026 season

The jury is made up of the Artistic Council of the Regina Maria Theatre.
